블랙 아이드 피스의 Where is the love

내가 좋아하는 노래중에 하나가 바로 블랙 아이드 피스의 where is the love..로 자주 듣는편이다.

특히 퍼기가 처음 참여한 곳으로 알려진 Where is the love였기에 더욱더 의미가 있다.

해체기로에 있었던 BEP를 다시금 주목받게 만들고..퍼기의 매력이 돋보이는 곡이며 가사 자체가 의미가 있다.

 

이들에게 퍼기를 소개해준 사람은 저스틴 팀버레이크(Justin timberlake)라는데..머 그냥 악동은 아닌모양이다.

이곡은 911 테러 이후에 미국 정부가 하는 정책이 바른 방향이가등에 대한 성찰이 담겨 있는 느낌이 든다.

 

작사를 했던 윌은 흔히 백인우월주의자이면서 흑인들을 탄압하는데 대표적인 단체 이름 KKK같은 사회의식적인 가사를 많이 넣었다.  가사에서 나오는 The Bloods와 Crips는 KKK단이 싫어하는 북동부의 갱단 이름이다.

 

 

내가 KKK단에 대해서 처음 접한 것은 미국역사를 통한 것이 아니라 셜록홈즈 에피소드를 통해서였다.

쿠 클럭스 클랜(Ku Klux Klan)이라고 불리우는 이 조직은 1865년 미국 테네시주 펄래스키에서 설립되고 이후 악명을 높였다. 철저한 위계질서를 지키며, 준(準)종교적 의식을 올리고, 얼굴을 흰 두건으로 가린 이 비밀 결사 조직은 처음에는 위협과 공갈, 협박으로 백인의 지배권을 회복하기 위해 치명적인 테러도 서슴치 않았다.

 

KKK는 영화에서도 등장했지만 X파일 시리즈의 야구선수 애피소드에도 나온적이 있으며 어릴적 셜록홈즈에 빠져있을때 '다섯 개의 오렌지 씨앗'에피소드에서도 등장한다. 홈즈가 해결하지 못한 미해결 사건중에 하나이며 생명의 위협을 느끼는 그런 느낌의 이야기였던 것으로 기억한다.
